Open-ended art session led by JayAmi Sellers to reconnect with yourself through painting, collage and drawing, with an optional group conversation.
Room to Bloom is coming to Pike Branch on Friday, November 6, from 2 PM to 4 PM. It's a self-care session led by JayAmi Sellers, and it's not your usual art class. Sellers describes it as an invitation to reconnect with yourself and engage in self-expression through art, and she's clear that this isn't a traditional workshop or a skill-based class. There's no particular technique you're supposed to master here.
Instead, the session is an open space for emotional processing, communal care, and creative exploration. You're free to play with paint, collage, drawing, and mixed media, and there's an optional group conversation at the end if you're in the mood to talk about what you've made. The program also points to book lists on mindfulness, self-care, and creativity, so if you want to take the theme home with you, there's a reading list to dive into.
This is part of a series, and if you find it works for you, there's another session on Friday, November 20, at the same branch. The sessions are aimed at seniors and adults, and they're made possible with support from Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.
