Free monthly morning bird hike led by Bird Alliance of Central Indiana members and Holliday Park staff at the Holliday Park Nature Center.
Morning Bird Hikes are back at the Holliday Park Nature Center on Tuesday, October 20, from 8:30 AM to 10 AM. These are monthly morning bird hikes led by members of the Bird Alliance of Central Indiana and Holliday Park staff, and they're open to the public. If you can't make this one, the series continues with hikes on November 17 and December 15, so you've got a few chances to get out there over the next couple of months.
It's a good way to spend a Tuesday morning if you're into birds or just want to get some fresh air before the workday kicks in. The hikes are led by people who know their way around the local species, and since they're open to everyone, you don't need to be an expert to join in. You just show up and walk.
The hikes start at the Holliday Park Nature Center, located at 6363 Spring Mill Rd. in Indianapolis. The park itself is one of the city's oldest and works as a year-round destination: more than 3.5 miles of wooded trails, a nature-inspired playground, and river access. Inside the Nature Center, the 13,000-square-foot Habitat Hall focuses on Marion County's natural and environmental history, with hands-on exhibits like the White River Water Table, the Music of the Wetlands audio station, and an elevated hardwood forest canopy viewing area. The playground was fully reimagined with nature-themed, inclusive play elements, and the park also features The Ruins—historic limestone sculptures originally part of New York City's St. Paul Building, moved to Indianapolis in the 1950s. The park runs environmental educational programming for all ages throughout the year.
