Free workshop with Mama Carla to turn old sweaters into unique fabric pumpkins.
Mama Carla is hosting a free workshop at In Process, a community art space on Saturday, October 24, from 1 PM to 3 PM. The project is called Making with Mama Carla: Upcycled Sweater Pumpkins, and it's exactly what it sounds like: you bring in old sweaters and turn them into soft, fabric pumpkins.
If you've got a few sweaters in the back of your closet that you don't wear anymore—maybe they're a bit worn out or just not your style—this is a good way to put them to use. Instead of tossing them, you'll be transforming that knit fabric into cozy, handmade pumpkins. It's a simple, hands-on project, and since it's a workshop, you'll walk through the process with others rather than figuring it out on your own. You'll leave with a finished piece that's unique to the sweater you brought.
It's a free session, so you don't have to worry about a ticket price. The only thing you really need to bring is the material you're working with. If you've been looking for a low-stakes way to get into sewing or just want to spend a Saturday afternoon making something for your home, this fits the bill. It's a couple of hours on a weekend, and you get something tangible out of it.
