Open-to-all-ages workshop to contribute a page to a collaborative collage book marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Making Together comes to the Spades Park Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Monday, November 16, from 3 PM to 5 PM. It's a collaborative collage project led by Vanessa Monfreda and Gina Lee Robbins, and it's open to all ages.
The project is tied to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The idea is to mark the occasion by contributing to a collective art piece that reflects on civic life and the shared American experience. You'll add your own page to a collaborative collage book, and when it's finished, the book will be exhibited and added to the library's permanent collection. All the materials you need are provided on-site, though you're welcome to bring your own personal photos, magazines, and records—just keep in mind that donated materials won't be returned.
The venue itself has its own history. The Spades Park Branch is a 7,500-square-foot building that opened in 1912 with a $120,000 grant from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. It was renovated for $610,000 in 1987 and hit its centennial in 2012. The session is open to all ages and is held in memory of Ken McCune, by Karen McCune.
