Screening of the documentary 'Looking Up' by Elena Neuman, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmaker, within the 28th Annual Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts.
Looking Up screens at JCC Indianapolis on Tuesday, November 10, at 7 PM, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmaker, Elena Neuman. The screening is part of the 28th Annual Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts, which runs from October 25 to November 17 across the JCC.
The film tells the true story of Eitan Armon, who was diagnosed at 20 with retinitis pigmentosa, a rare and incurable genetic disease that causes blindness. With only 5% of his central vision remaining, Armon took up rock climbing and eventually ascended El Capitan in Yosemite. He's also a veteran IDF paratrooper, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Columbia, and a Rhodes Scholar finalist. These days he works as a financial analyst and mentors other people living with visual impairments.
Looking Up is Elena Neuman's feature directorial debut, and it won the NY Women in Film and Television Award for Excellence in Documentary Directing. The panel discussion after the screening gives you a chance to hear from her directly about the project.

The festival itself has a bit of a story behind it. What started as a one-week book fair grew into a major annual event when Irwin "Irv" Katz began making a significant contribution in 2000. Katz served as JCC board president from 1950 to 1952 and again from 1958 to 1961, during the move to the current 24,000-square-foot facility. The festival was renamed to honor his wife, Ann, who was an inveterate reader. Tickets for the screening are $10.
