Lego block party for children and teenagers aged 6 to 18, with bricks provided in the library's children's area.
The Haughville Branch is hosting a Lego Block Party on Tuesday, December 15, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. It's an open building session for kids and teens, and the library provides the bricks, so you don't need to bring your own set from home. The party takes place in the branch's children's area, and it's recommended for ages 6 to 18, which means it's open to a pretty wide range of builders—from the little ones just getting started to the older kids who can handle more complex projects.
If you're not familiar with the branch, it's the longest continuously operating branch in the Indianapolis Public Library system. It started on the city's east side in 1896 and moved to the Haughville village after 1897. Over the years, it's held a few different spots: it spent time in the former town hall on 6th Avenue, which a 1904 fire partially destroyed, and later in a storefront in the Michigan Plaza Shopping Center. That storefront served as the library until 2003, when the current 12,000-square-foot building opened on West Michigan Street.

Since the bricks are provided, it's a low-stakes way to spend a Tuesday afternoon. You can drop in with your kids and let them build whatever they want, and they'll be in the children's area with other kids doing the same thing. It's a simple, open-ended session—no specific project to finish or competition to enter, just a table full of Lego and some time to put things together. The Lego Block Party runs from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday, December 15, at the Haughville Branch, 2121 West Michigan Street.
