Free screening of Martin Scorsese's 1978 concert documentary 'The Last Waltz', about The Band's farewell show, in the Butler Arts Free Community Movie Series.
The Schrott Center for the Arts is screening The Last Waltz on Tuesday, November 24, as part of the Free Community Movie Series hosted by Butler Arts. The film is Martin Scorsese's 1978 documentary about the roots-rock legends The Band, and it's free to attend—no ticket required.
The Last Waltz is widely considered one of the greatest concert films ever made. Scorsese captures The Band's farewell performance, which took place on Thanksgiving Day 1976 at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom. It's more than just a concert movie, though; it's a cinematic celebration of an era. Scorsese weaves high-energy performances by music royalty—Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Eric Clapton all make appearances—with candid backstage interviews that get into the highs and lows of life on the road.
The screening is part of the Free Community Movie Series, a program of fan-favorite and family-friendly classics shown at the Schrott Center for the Arts on Butler University's campus. Concessions are available, and parking is in the Sunset Avenue garage.
