Día de los Muertos celebration at Crown Hill Cemetery with live mariachi music, traditional dancers, a live DJ and a trunk-or-treat for children.
Crown Hill Cemetery is hosting a Día de los Muertos Celebration on Sunday, October 25, from 12 PM to 5 PM. It's a community afternoon built around the traditions of the holiday, which is celebrated on November 1 and 2 in Mexico and across much of Latin America. The roots go back thousands of years to Mexico's Indigenous traditions, and the day is about welcoming the spirits of loved ones home for a visit.
Families usually mark the occasion by building ofrendas—altars covered with photographs of those who have died, candles, sweets, marigolds, and the foods and drinks those people loved. At community celebrations, children often connect with the holiday through crafts, face painting, and the Catrinas, people dressed and painted as elegant skeletons. The afternoon at Crown Hill draws on those same traditions, with live music and activities for families.
