Monthly craft gathering where seniors and adults learn and practice a new craft with other creatives at the West Perry Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library.
Crafternoons at West Perry is back at the West Perry Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Thursday, December 10, from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. It's a monthly gathering for seniors and adults to learn and practice a new craft alongside other creatives from the community, so you can pick up something new and hang out with people who are doing the same.
If you haven't spent much time there, the West Perry Branch is a 24,000-square-foot facility that opened in 2021 to fill a service gap in Perry Township on Indy's south side. The collection reflects the neighborhood, with Spanish-language materials and children's books in Burmese to support the area's immigrant population. It's a full-service library, not just a place to borrow books: there's a community meeting room that seats 203, a fireplace, a marketplace, computer stations, dedicated zones for children and teens, and an outdoor patio.
Crafternoons fits right into that mix. It's aimed at seniors and adults, and the focus is as much on the people as the project—learning a new craft while working alongside other creatives from the community. If you've been wanting to get into something hands-on but didn't want to tackle it alone, this is a good way to start.
