Free weekly arts and crafts club at the West Indianapolis Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library, open to everyone.
Crafternoon is back at the West Indianapolis Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Monday, November 16, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM. It's an arts and crafts club run by the library, and it's open to everyone. If you miss this one, it's not a one-off: it runs every Monday at 2:30 PM, so you can drop in whenever your schedule allows.
The format is pretty straightforward. Regulars bring along a creative project they're already working on, and newcomers can use the library's own supplies to start something new. Whether you've got a half-finished knit or a sketch you've been meaning to get back to, you can bring it in and work on it alongside other people. If you're coming in with nothing, the library has you covered with the materials to get a new project off the ground.
The branch itself has some history behind it. The first branch in the area opened in 1897 after the neighborhood was annexed by the city. For decades, the community was served by a Carnegie-funded building on West Morris Street, which was built with a $120,000 grant from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation and stayed in use from 1912 until 1986. The current 5,000-square-foot branch on South Kappes Street has been in service since 1986.
