Late-night drop-in craft session at the Martindale-Brightwood Branch library where patrons can learn a new skill, get help with projects or use the branch's supplies.
Crafter Hours is back at the Martindale-Brightwood Branch on Tuesday, December 29, from 6 PM to 7:30 PM. It's a late-night drop-in craft session the library runs to help patrons destress after work, so you can just show up and hang out for as long as you like.
Each month the branch focuses on a specific craft, and you can use that as a starting point to learn a new skill, get some help with a project you've already started, or just spend some creative time with the branch's supplies. They've got a good spread to work from: yarn, jewelry-making materials, paper, a sewing machine, and a Cricut machine. If you've already got something on the go, you're welcome to bring your own project along and work on it there.
The session is held in the community room of the Martindale-Brightwood Branch, which is at 2434 North Sherman Drive in Indianapolis. The branch itself has a bit of history behind itโit traces back to the Brightwood Branch, which opened in 1901 as the sixth public library in the city. It served the community at several locations along Station Street before moving to a North Sherman Avenue storefront in 1972. A 1996 renovation doubled the branch to 5,400 square feet, and in 2020 a brand-new building opened across the street, which was renamed the Martindale-Brightwood Branch.
