Monthly one-hour introductory computer skills workshop for seniors and adult learners in the library's computer lab.
Computers for Beginners is back at the Martindale-Brightwood Branch on Wednesday, November 4, from 11 AM to 12 PM. It's a one-hour workshop held in the branch's computer lab, and it runs on the first Wednesday of every month, so if you can't make this one, there's another session coming around soon.
The class is aimed at seniors and adult learners who find technology overwhelming. It starts with the basics—signing into a computer, exploring its functions, and learning online etiquette—and walks you through them step by step. It's designed for people who feel a bit lost when they sit down at a screen, so you don't need to know anything going in.
The branch itself has a long history in the neighborhood. It opened in 1901 as the Brightwood Branch, the sixth public library in Indianapolis, and spent decades serving the community at several locations along Station Street, one block west of where it is now. The current North Sherman Avenue site opened in 1972, and a 1996 renovation doubled the branch to 5,400 square feet. In 2020, a brand-new building opened across the street and was renamed the Martindale-Brightwood Branch.
