Chair-based yoga and mindfulness class led by Carol Tharp-Perrin, combining gentle stretches and breathing techniques with meditation for seniors and adults.
Carol Tharp-Perrin leads a chair yoga and mindfulness class at the West Indianapolis Branch on Tuesday, November 10, from 1 PM to 2 PM. It's designed for seniors and adults, and the whole thing stays in the chair, so you don't have to worry about getting down on a mat or balancing on one leg.
Tharp-Perrin combines breathing techniques with gentle stretches and movements. The goal is to work on heart rate, mental focus, posture, flexibility, balance, strength, and mind-body awareness. She describes it as a form of relaxation that energizes both body and mind, promoting steadiness, confidence, and a sense of well-being. Intermittent meditative music carries the session, and it closes with a brief meditation.
The program is made possible by The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation with support from Honda. The West Indianapolis Branch itself has a long history in the neighborhood: the first branch opened in 1897 after the area was annexed by the city, and a Carnegie Foundation-funded building on West Morris Street opened in 1912. That building served the community until 1986, when the current 5,000-square-foot library began service on South Kappes Street.
