Chair-based yoga and mindfulness session led by Carol Tharp-Perrin that combines breathing techniques with gentle stretches for seniors and adults.
Carol Tharp-Perrin leads a chair yoga and mindfulness session at the Spades Park Branch on Tuesday, December 1, from 11 AM to 12 PM. It's a chair-based class aimed at seniors and adults, so you don't need to get down on a mat to join in.
The session combines breathing techniques with gentle stretches and movements, with the goal of improving heart rate, mental focus, and relaxation. Tharp-Perrin describes chair yoga as a practice that energizes both body and mind by connecting breath to movement, and it works on posture, flexibility, balance, strength, and mind-body awareness. If you've never done yoga before, this is a low-barrier way to start.
The class is held at the Spades Park Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library, at 1801 Nowland Avenue in Indianapolis. The branch itself has a bit of history: it was built with a $120,000 grant from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation and opened in 1912, later underwent a $610,000 renovation in 1987, and celebrated its centenary in 2012.
