Weekly Tuesday session of chair-based yoga and mindfulness led by Carol Tharp-Perrin to practice breathing techniques, improve posture and relaxation, aimed at seniors and adults.
Carol Tharp-Perrin leads a chair yoga and mindfulness class at the West Indianapolis Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Tuesday, December 8, from 1 PM to 2 PM. It's part of the library's Health & Wellness series, and it's geared toward seniors and adults.
If you've never done chair yoga, the idea is pretty straightforward: you do the practice while seated rather than on a mat. Tharp-Perrin describes it as a way to energize both body and mind by connecting breath to stretches and gentle movements. The session focuses on breathing techniques to help lower your heart rate and sharpen your mental focus, and it's designed to improve posture, flexibility, balance, and strength. There's also a mindfulness side to it—building that mind-body awareness that leads to a bit more steadiness and confidence in how you move. Intermittent meditative music plays throughout, and the whole thing closes with a brief meditation.
The class is made possible by the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation, with support from Honda. It's one part of the library's broader Health & Wellness offering, and if you want to keep going after the session, there's a curated book list called Every Body Yoga (or Fit Lit: Every Body Yoga) to follow up with.
