Monthly art therapy group for high schoolers to explore identity, emotions and belonging through painting, collage, clay and mixed media.
Aubrey Rhodes leads a monthly art therapy group for teenagers at Create Art Studio in Indianapolis, meeting on the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Rhodes is an art therapist with Northside Mental Health, and she describes the sessions as a welcoming, creative space for high schoolers to slow down, connect, and explore who they are right now and who they're becoming.
Each session brings the group together around the art table through grounding, creative play, shared reflection, and integration. You'll work with hands-on materials—paint, collage, clay, fiber, and mixed media—to explore themes like identity, emotions, relationships, community, and imagining the future. It's a supportive, pressure-free environment, and no art experience is needed; the focus is on discovering meaning through the process rather than creating a perfect piece of artwork.
The group is aimed at high schoolers aged 14 to 19, and it's especially for those navigating change, feeling in-between, or craving a sense of belonging. Because it's a monthly gathering, it's less of a one-off class and more of a recurring space to return to.
