10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's

The Wayne Branch Library is hosting a workshop on the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer's on Saturday, October 31, from 10 AM to 11 AM. It's run in partnership with the Greater Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, and the whole thing is about helping you recognize the common signs of Alzheimer's and dementia in yourself and in others. It's the kind of session that's as much about what comes next as it is about the signs themselves—they'll go over how to bring the issue up with a doctor, too.

Beyond the warning signs, the session clears up the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia, which are often used as if they're the same thing. They'll walk through the stages of the condition, the risk factors, current research, and FDA-approved treatments. If you've ever wondered where the line is between normal aging and something more, or what the actual medical landscape looks like right now, this is where you'll find those answers.

Alzheimer's Disease and Caring for a Loved One with Dementia are there for the more clinical or caregiving side of things, and Sharing Memories is a children's book for when you need to talk about it with the youngest members of the family. The library itself has been a fixture in the neighborhood for a while—it first opened in December 1969 in a shopping center at 7341 Rockville Road, moved to its permanent 13,500-square-foot home in 1984, and went through a $1.1 million renovation in 2020.
