A free, in-person writing gathering for Black women and femmes to write independently using the Pomodoro technique.
Sweet Communion is back at Sanman Studios on Sunday, October 11, from 1 PM to 4 PM. It's a free, in-person writing gathering for Black women and femmes to write independently, held in The Reading Room library inside the studio. If you've been staring at a half-finished project or just can't seem to carve out a few hours for your own work, this is exactly the kind of space that makes it happen.
The session runs on the Pomodoro technique, which breaks the afternoon into focused intervals of work separated by short breaks. The idea is to keep you concentrated without burning out, so you can actually get through a decent chunk of writing in one go. It's a low-stakes, high-productivity setup: you show up, settle in, and put in the time.
What really sets it apart, though, are the rules. There are no prompts to follow, no critique of what you're working on, and no performance expectations. You aren't there to workshop a piece or get feedback from the room; you're there to get your own work done. And there's no pressure to share anything you've written when the session ends—what you produce stays yours.
