An interactive writing session where participants explore how music inspires vivid imagery and storytelling, led by the Las Migas group.
Las Migas are bringing their Writing Workout to Jesse H. Jones Hall on Saturday, October 17. It's not a performance in the usual sense—you're not just sitting in the dark watching something happen on stage. Instead, the session is built around guided and interactive writing activities, where you'll be writing along with the group throughout the evening.
The whole thing centers on how music can spark vivid imagery and storytelling. You'll listen, and then you'll write, discovering how a piece of music can pull a specific image or a narrative out of you. If you've ever had a song get stuck in your head and found yourself imagining a scene to go with it, that's essentially what this is: taking that instinct and turning it into a shared activity. It's a chance to see where your own writing goes when you're working from a musical prompt.
Las Migas are the ones leading the way, and the session is part of Performing Arts Houston's season. If you're not familiar with them, they're the driving force behind the workout, and this is one of the events they've programmed as part of the broader season. It's a good fit for anyone who enjoys the act of writing but doesn't always find a reason to sit down and do it, or for someone who likes the idea of a creative exercise that doesn't require you to come with a finished project in hand.
