Word on the Hill

Word on the Hill returns to Nimbus Publishing on Saturday, September 19, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. It's their annual book block party, a day that brings together local authors, publishers and families in one spot.

The programme runs from author readings and signings to a kids' story and activity tent, with Atlantic publisher pop-ups and giveaways scattered throughout. There's also a book sale with discounted titles from Nimbus and other local publishers, so you can pick up a few things without spending much. If you're bringing the kids, the story tent is a good place to park them for a bit while you browse.

One of the day's hallmarks is 'Pitch the Publisher', where budding authors get three minutes in front of a panel of Atlantic Canadian publishers. It's a first-come, first-served thing: places are allocated from a sign-up sheet at the checkout table on the day, so if you've got something you're working on, get there early to put your name down.

It's at Nimbus Publishing, 3660 Strawberry Hill St., Halifax, NS B3K 5A9, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Soft covers are C$5.
