Maritime Heritage Festival

The Maritime Heritage Festival returns to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on September 12 and 13, 2026. It's the museum's second annual edition, and this one takes over a good stretch of the waterfront. The festival is centred in the Maritime Heritage District, the area just behind the museum, but it doesn't stop there. Activities will be spread across Anchor Yard, inside the museum itself, along the HMCS Sackville wharves, and out onto the waterfront.

Because it's an outdoor, family-friendly event, it's designed for you to drift between the different spots rather than stick to one room. The museum is the anchor, but the bulk of the action happens outside in the open air. The Downtown Halifax Business Commission is sponsoring the festival, with Build Nova Scotia and the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust coming on as major partners. More participating community organisations, performers, and a full activity schedule will be added to the museum's website and social media as the date gets closer.

It runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, so you've got a wide window to work with. Admission is free, and since it's a family-friendly setup, it's easy to bring the kids along. If you're planning to spend the whole weekend, you can hit the waterfront on Saturday and come back for more on Sunday, or just pick one day and wander through the museum and the wharves at your own pace.
