Indie rock concert by the Charlottetown band Gizmo at the Seahorse Tavern in Halifax.
Gizmo are playing the Seahorse Tavern on Friday, October 16, with the show starting at 8:30 PM. They're an indie rock band from Charlottetown, so they'll be coming over from PEI for the night. It's a single-act bill, with Gizmo as the only name on the poster.
The timing works out well if you're into their music: they're releasing their first full-length album, All Your Worships, on October 2 via Victory Pool Records. By the time they hit the Seahorse, the record will have been out for two weeks, so the set should lean heavily on the new material. If you've been following them, you'll remember the 2023 EP Buddy System, which is where they first made a name for themselves. That'll likely still find its way into the mix, alongside the newer songs.
As for how they sound, the band describes themselves as indie rockers inspired by the guitar-damaged pop of 1990s American slacker bands and by their East Coast Canadian contemporaries. They say they were raised on classic MTV and built for the Gen Z set, and that slacker-rock influence comes through in the guitar work—melodic but with a bit of grit around the edges. All Your Worships was produced by Alex Edkins, who's worked with METZ and Weird Nightmare, and Loel Campbell of Wintersleep, two names that point toward a loud, guitar-driven sound rather than something polite. Between the PEI roots and the 90s US references, it's a particular kind of indie rock that sits somewhere between the East Coast scene and the slacker-pop of a few decades back.
