Intimate evening of indie folk music with singer-songwriter Rachael Kilgour at Robie St Studio in Downtown Halifax.
Rachael Kilgour plays Robie St Studio on Thursday, 29 October, at 7:00 PM. It's an intimate evening of music, food and drinks in downtown Halifax, with Kilgour as the sole feature of the night.
Kilgour is a Minnesota-born singer-songwriter whose work sits in the indie folk tradition. Her writing is spare and often gutting, grappling with belonging, inheritance and grief, and her live performances are known for their sincerity and humour. She's been writing and performing for a while: she won the Newsong Songwriting and Performance Competition in 2015 and the Kerrville New Folk Contest in 2017. More recently, she earned a McKnight Music Fellowship in 2025 and an official showcasing artist slot at the FAI Conference that same year.
Her lyrics have caught the attention of some bigger names in music. Rolling Stone has noted her unapologetic writing, and Billboard highlighted her master-crafted indie folk sensibilities. Between the two, they describe a songwriter who doesn't shy away from the hard stuff and who puts as much care into the craft as she does into the subject matter.
