Canada's Storytellers: Alice Switocz Goldbloom

Alice Switocz Goldbloom is coming to the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 on Sunday, September 13, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. She's a Montreal writer and the author of Family Secrets (Pottersfield Press, 2026), an award-winning memoir she describes as part detective story, part memoir. The book follows her search to uncover her parents' hidden wartime experiences in Nazi-occupied Poland.

Goldbloom was born in Sarnia, Ontario, to Polish immigrant parents and later married into a Jewish family. Before turning to writing, she spent three decades in government and corporate communications, serving as chief of staff to a federal cabinet minister and as a partner in a communications firm. She currently sits on the board of the Quebec Writers' Federation and is a member of The Writers' Union of Canada.

The talk is part of Canada's Storytellers, an ongoing series at the museum that brings visitors together with cultural works and their creators to explore immigration, migration, multiculturalism, (in)equality and Canadian identity. The series has hosted authors like Lawrence Hill, Madeleine Thien, Mark Sakamoto, Blaise Ndala and Kim Thuy in the past.

On the day, Goldbloom will talk about Family Secrets, followed by a Q&A and a book signing. It runs from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 in Halifax.
