The Atlantic Canada 48 Hour Film Project Festival takes over downtown Halifax this weekend, Saturday September 26 and Sunday September 27, with screenings running from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm across the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Carbon Arc Cinema. It's the public payoff to a competition that's been running in the background for a few weeks now.
If you haven't followed the lead-up, here's the gist: the Atlantic Canada 48 Hour Film Project is the only international filmmaking competition open to both professionals and amateurs across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador. The competition itself is a sprint—teams have just 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film from scratch. This festival is where those results finally hit a screen.
This is the 11th edition, and it brings together 18 films made during the challenge on September 4–6. Those 18 shorts will be screened for an audience in downtown Halifax, so you'll see the full range of what came out of that weekend. It's a good way to see a lot of new work in one go, and because the teams are mixed—pros and amateurs working side by side—the styles can vary quite a bit from one screen to the next.

There's also a prize on the line: a C$1,000 award from Tidekite, Filmapalooza, and Cannes. The screenings run across both the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Carbon Arc Cinema on Saturday and Sunday, from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm.
