Art of Disability Festival

The Art of Disability Festival returns to the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 on Saturday 15 August, running from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. It's the 14th year the festival has been running, put on by Independent Living Nova Scotia (ILNS), and it's built as a barrier-free, inclusive event that puts Nova Scotian artists with disabilities centre stage. The whole thing is held on the first floor in the Ralph & Rose Chiodo Gallery, at 1055 Marginal Road in Halifax.

Inside, you'll find around 30 local artists showing and selling their work. It's not just one thing, either — the mix covers visual and fine art, crafts, and performance art, so you'll see a good range of styles and mediums in one room. The artists are there in person, and they're selling what they show, which makes it a good spot to pick up something original directly from the person who made it.

Beyond the art on the walls, the festival is set up as a place to celebrate, connect and ignite creativity, and that applies to the artists and the community members who visit. It's as much about the people as it is about the work on display.

Admission is free, and the gallery is open from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday 15 August at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, 1055 Marginal Road.
