Family pantomime of The Wizard of Oz by Drumchapel Amateur Panto Club, with audience participation, costumes and well-known songs.
Drumchapel Amateur Panto Club are bringing The Wizard of Oz to St Brendan's RC Church hall in Glasgow's West End, with two matinee performances on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November. It's a family pantomime that follows the familiar path down the Yellow Brick Road, so it's one of those shows you can take the whole house to.
The story starts with Dorothy and her Auntie Em, who end up on a whirlwind adventure through the Land of Oz. Along the way they meet the usual lot: a Scarecrow searching for a brain, a Tin Man with a rusty heart, and a very cowardly Lion. There are also some not-so-friendly witches to contend with, and the whole thing is built around the well-known songs that most of us already know by heart.
As a panto, it's as much about the room as the stage. There's audience participation to get involved with, colourful costumes, and a good deal of sparkle and silliness. The club describes it as a magical pantomime with plenty of laughs, so it's the kind of afternoon that works just as well for the kids as it does for the adults who grew up with the story.
