Indie-folk outfit Stornoway celebrate their new album Beyonder with a night of nature-inspired music, supported by Minna.
Stornoway play The Old Fruitmarket on Saturday 16 January, as part of Celtic Connections 2027. They're touring their new album, Beyonder, and the night is built around it: nature-inspired songs and the rich harmonies that have come to define their sound.
The band formed quietly during a freshers' week at Oxford University, when lead singer and principal songwriter Brian Briggs approached Jon Ouin after asking if he liked Teenage Fanclub. The two began playing together in the dining hall of Wolfson College, and they later made history as the first unsigned act ever booked to play the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. That early, low-key start sits in a strange contrast to the scale of the stages they've played since.
On the night, Briggs is joined by multi-instrumentalists Jon Ouin and Oli Steadman, who build warm, atmospheric soundscapes from acoustic instruments, keyboards and inventive textures. Support comes from Minna, whose set blends country-folk storytelling with contemporary songwriting. It's a double bill that keeps the evening in the same general territory: folk-inflected songs with a focus on the lyrics.
