Short magical puppet show for all ages by Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre, with characters made from recycled materials, at the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre.
Clydebuilt Puppet Theatre bring Stories Just In Case! to the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre on Sunday 18 October, with two performances that morning and afternoon. It's a short, magical show for all ages from one of Scotland's well-known puppet companies, and it works around a simple, clever premise: inside each case lives a story.
Over the course of the show, those cases open up to reveal tales of mermaids, a fisherman's wishes and kings, told through a mix of puppetry and storytelling. The staging is built around a set of trunks that shift as the stories do, becoming a boat, a house or even a castle. The characters themselves are made from unusual and recycled materials, a choice that's meant to encourage children to imagine how they might build their own stories and their own stage.
It's a show that's travelled a bit, and the feedback has been warm. At Applecross Village Hall, the word was 'just brilliant, the children loved it all', and in Perth, one audience member said, 'we have come back for every single one'.
