A fun adaptation of the Grimm tale with beautiful Elf puppets and shoes, with craft activities in the cafe.
Clydebuilt Puppets bring The Elves And The Shoemaker to the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre on Sunday 6 December, with two performances that day, one at 11am and another at 2pm. It's a retelling of the Grimm tale we all know: a poor shoemaker is left with only one pair of shoes and not enough money to pay his rent, and two mischievous elves step in to help him make some unusual shoes that prove very much appreciated. In return, he finds a way to reward them.
It's a puppet show, so the story is told with beautiful elf puppets, a collection of objects, and plenty of lovely shoes. The whole thing is staged at the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre in Glasgow's West End, at 8-10 Balcarres Avenue, G12 0QF. It's a venue that does a few things at once: an 80-seat theatre, a museum, and an education unit, all housing an extensive mask and puppet library and archive. Alongside those, there are permanent exhibition areas, a cafe, a mask studio, and a marionette carving workshop. The centre runs a regular family Saturday Show programme from September through June, with workshops and birthday party events to go with it.
