A weekly beginner's open mic comedy night where new and established acts perform, regarded as one of the best open mic nights in the UK.
Red Raw runs every Tuesday night at The Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow's West End, and it's the club's long-running beginner showcase. It's billed as one of the best open mic comedy nights in the UK, and the club describes it as the place where everyone starts.
The format is straightforward: up to ten new acts share the bill, many of them treading the boards for the very first time, alongside older hands dropping in to try out new material. It's a mix of people just starting out and comics who've been around a while, both using the same stage to get their latest bits in front of a crowd. The night is built as a chance to see tomorrow's comics today, and the acts get on through the club's own application process.
It's not just a Glasgow thing, either. The showcase also runs in Edinburgh on Mondays and in Newcastle on Wednesdays, so it's part of a wider circuit for new comedy. If you're into seeing people find their feet on stage, this is exactly that sort of night.
