A magical family workshop transforming the Old Victorian Street at Riverside Museum into a wizarding world with spooky crafts, object handling and a magical performance.
Magic on Main Street takes over the Riverside Museum from Saturday 10 to Sunday 18 October, turning the Old Victorian Street inside the museum into a wizarding world. There's a wand shop, a dragon saddlery and a magical sweet shop to explore, and the whole thing is run by Glasgow Museums.
It's set up as a daily programme for the October half term, with a different activity every day that mixes spooky crafts with the museum's collections. You can make your own vampire bat, go on a monster hunt for the infamous Gorbals Vampire set in the 1950s, handle 17th-century manuscripts with experts from Glasgow University, and discover the 'magic of metal' with curator Ralph Moffat, who shows how knights used incantations, spells and religious symbols to protect themselves. There are also sessions on rocks and minerals, invisible art and jewellery making with Vanilla Ink Jewellers.
On Friday afternoon, the museum team runs an autism-friendly family workshop with spooky crafts and object handling, and the weekend rounds off with a 30-minute magical performance by Circe the Ancient Sorceress on her secret, time-travelling Island of Aeaea.
