Club night Magic Nostalgic celebrates 17 years with a Halloween party and music wheel, featuring non-stop hits.
Magic Nostalgic is taking over King Tut's Wah Wah Hut on Saturday 31 October, a Halloween club night that marks 17 years for the night. It's a fancy dress party built around non-stop hits chosen by the venue's music wheel, so the setlist is left to chance rather than a fixed playlist. If you've never been, the music wheel is a Tut's staple: a spinning wheel of song titles that decides what gets played, and the crowd gets to see it turn.
The night is at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, 272a St Vincent Street in the city centre. It's a 300-capacity room that's been a fixture of the Scottish live scene since it opened in 1990. Over the years it's picked up a fair few accolades: NME named it 'Britain's Best Small Venue' in 2011 and 'quite possibly the finest small venue in the world' in 2007, Radio 1 called it 'UK's Best Live Venue' three years running, and New York Magazine ranked it number 7 in its 'Follow Your Bliss List'.
It's also a place where a lot of big names got their start. Oasis were signed by Alan McGee there in 1993, and the stage has hosted Radiohead, The Killers, Pulp, Snow Patrol, Manic Street Preachers, Florence & The Machine, Biffy Clyro, Frightened Rabbit and Paolo Nutini. It's a room that's seen a lot of bands pass through on their way up, and it's still one of the city's most recognisable stages.
