An exploratory creative workshop for young people aged 16-25 led by trans filmmaker Lexie Bean, focusing on self-care and community healing, followed by a screening of 'What Will I Become?'.
Lexie Bean is leading a creative workshop at The Boardwalk on Sunday 25 October, from 14:30 to 16:00. It's open to young people aged 16-25, and it's free to attend. The session is co-presented with LGBT Youth Scotland as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival's Focus on Film programme.
Bean is a trans filmmaker and artist, and the workshop is built around self-care, community healing and finding room to process difficult experiences. It's an exploratory session, so it's more about working through things than coming away with a finished piece of art. Once the workshop wraps up, there's a screening of What Will I Become?, the award-winning documentary Bean co-directed with Logan Rozos. The film follows them across the United States as they look at their own trans boyhood through the legacies of two young trans men.
Both the workshop and the screening sit within the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival, which returns for its 20th year in 2026. This edition runs from 19 October to 8 November under the theme 'Reflections', with a youth engagement programme aimed at artists and audiences aged 16-25. The Focus on Film strand is one part of that wider festival, and this session is one of the ways it's bringing in younger voices.

It's a Sunday afternoon slot at The Boardwalk, 105 Brunswick Street in the city centre, and it's free, so you can come for the workshop and stay for the film. The whole thing runs from 14:30 to 16:00.
