Australian comedy rockstar Jenny Talia brings her new show Without Adult Supervision to The Stand Comedy Club, blending comedy with original songs.
Jenny Talia brings her new show, Without Adult Supervision, to The Stand Comedy Club on Wednesday 11 November. She's an Australian comedy rockstar and self-styled stand-up musical menace who takes to the stage with a guitar, and the set blends quick, fearless comedy with filthy original songs and savage crowd work. It's a solo tour that she bills as feeling more like a party than a comedy set.
There's a fair bit of history behind the guitar. Talia has built a cult following on the strength of more than ten albums, and she's toured internationally, supporting comedy legends along the way — including her father, the comedy icon Kevin Bloody Wilson. She's toured Britain extensively, and she's said that some of her favourite comedians come from the UK, so she considers the Poms comedy connoisseurs. That's a nice bit of flattery to have in her pocket before she starts on the crowd.
If you're not familiar with the format, it's a mix of stand-up and song. The comedy is fast and fearless, the songs are original and filthy, and the crowd work is savage — so if you're sitting near the front, you might want to keep your guard up. Between the two, it's a high-energy night that leans more towards a party than a traditional comedy set, and with over ten albums behind her, there's plenty of material to draw from.
