Festive 5k charity dash for Beatson Cancer Charity at Glasgow Green, with run, jog, walk or sleigh options and a free Santa t-shirt for registered entrants.
Glasgow's Santa Dash returns to Glasgow Green on Sunday 6 December, with the start at 09:30. It's a festive 5k organised by the Beatson Cancer Charity, and the whole point is that you don't have to be a runner to take part. You can run it, jog it, walk it, or even hop on a sleigh to get yourself across the line. If you register, you get a free Santa t-shirt, and there are prizes for the best-dressed on the day, so there's plenty of room to lean into the costume side of things.
They run the start in waves, which you'll be allocated when you collect your t-shirt and race number. The faster runners go in the earlier waves, and the last one is for those with young children, buggies, prams, scooters or dogs, so you're not fighting for space. Under-5s don't get their own race numbers or t-shirts, but they're more than welcome to dash along with you.
The money raised goes to the Beatson Cancer Charity, the only charity exclusively dedicated to supporting the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. It's the second largest and busiest cancer treatment unit in the UK, and the funds go towards extra staff and clinical and laboratory research into the causes of cancer and new treatments. So, while the morning is all about the Santa suits and the 5k, the reason behind it is something a lot of us in the city have a personal connection to.
