Free playwriting workshops led by John Binnie, inspired by Agatha Christie's murder mysteries, for over-16s at the Mitchell Library.
John Binnie is running two playwriting workshops at the Mitchell Library this November, and if you've ever fancied having a go at writing for the stage, this is a great place to start. Binnie is an award-winning dramatist, and he's leading these sessions with Agatha Christie's murder mysteries as the jumping-off point. The idea is to build characters, monologues and locations that would fit right into one of the Queen of Crime's 66 detective whodunnits.
It's not just about the writing, either. You'll be working in a group, so there's a fair bit of sharing stories and seeing what everyone else is coming up with. The best part is that you don't need any previous writing experience to join in — all you need is a willingness to be creative and a bit of curiosity about how a mystery is put together. It's open to over-16s, so it's as much for a teenager as it is for someone who's spent a lifetime reading Christie.
The workshops are part of the Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery exhibition at the Mitchell Library, which is staged in partnership with the British Library and Scottish Book Trust and organised by Glasgow Libraries. If you're already planning to wander through the exhibition, this is a nice way to step from looking at the work to actually making some of your own.

There are two sessions in total, running on Saturday 7 and Saturday 14 November, from 2:30 to 4:00pm — so you'll want to make sure you can do both. They're free, though you'll need to book a ticket in advance. The Mitchell Library is on North Street, G3 7DN.
