Free drop-in Saturday family session at Kelvingrove to get to know the museum collection through crafts, music and object handling.
Discover is back at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum this Saturday, 31 October, and it's one of those things that's easy to keep in the back of your mind for whenever you've got a free afternoon with the kids. It's a hands-on family session that lets you get to know the museum's collection by actually doing something with it, rather than just looking from behind a rope. Depending on the day, that means either making and creating something inspired by the galleries, or handling and discussing objects from the collection yourself.
It's a drop-in, so you don't need to book anything in advance. You just turn up with the family and ask any member of staff where the session is running. It's open to families with children of all ages, so it works whether you've got a toddler or a teenager in tow. The whole thing is free, which is a nice change of pace for a Saturday afternoon out.
If you're planning a visit, it's worth knowing that the museum is fully accessible: there's lift access for wheelchairs and prams, and baby changing, feeding, and accessible toilets on every floor, so you won't be stuck on one level. The session is part of the Glasgow Museums programme, sitting right where family and kids' events meet arts and crafts workshops.

This Saturday is just the start of a run that goes well into December. After 31 October, it's on 14 November, 28 November, 12 December, and 19 December, all from 13:30 to 16:00. If you can't make this one, you've got four more dates to choose from over the next couple of months. It's free, it's drop-in, and it runs from 13:30 to 16:00 at Kelvingrove.
