A Halloween-themed family concert by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the RSNO Junior Chorus, presented by Owen Gunnell, featuring fairground music and spooky themes.
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra are at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 24 October for Creepy Carnival, a Halloween-themed family concert that swaps the usual concert hall air for something a bit more unsettling. It's part of the Children's Classic Concerts series, and the whole thing is presented by Owen Gunnell, with the RSNO and the RSNO Junior Chorus on stage.
The music takes you through an eerie carnival world, one filled with cobwebbed Ferris wheels and rusty rollercoasters abandoned with their rickety carts still on them. They've reimagined those rides as 'Roller Ghosters', and the set is built around that fairground-gone-wrong atmosphere, with plenty of chills and spills along the way. It's a Halloween special, so the mood is more about fairground frights and flickering lights than a standard orchestral programme.
On the conducting side, Robert Baxter leads the RSNO and the RSNO Junior Chorus, with Owen Gunnell presenting. The show is aimed at families, and under-16s need to be accompanied by an adult. BSL is available, too.
