A concert by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra conducted by Michael Bawtree, featuring the legendary film scores of Hans Zimmer and John Williams.
The Music of Zimmer Vs. Williams comes to the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Wednesday 30 December, a few days before the New Year. It's a head-to-head between the work of two of the biggest film composers of the last few decades, Hans Zimmer and John Williams, with a live orchestra playing through their scores.
If you've spent any time in a cinema, you'll recognise the names. Williams is the one behind Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and E.T., while Zimmer is the force behind Interstellar and Pirates of the Caribbean. The concert puts them side by side, with the orchestra working through scores from both. War Horse is another one on the list, so it's a fair mix of the big blockbusters and the more intimate stuff.
On the night, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra takes the stage, conducted by Michael Bawtree. They'll be playing the music live, which is always a different experience from hearing it on a soundtrack. It's a good way to hear how those themes actually work when they're not competing with dialogue and sound effects.
