A showcase of photojournalism and documentary photography featuring award-winning images on global issues such as the climate crisis and conflict.
The World Press Photo Exhibition returns to Edinburgh this autumn, running from 19 October to 7 November at The Scottish Parliament in the Old Town. It's one of the world's leading showcases of photojournalism and documentary photography, and this year it brings together the award-winning images and stories that have captured some of the most significant events, issues and experiences shaping the world today.
The exhibition is built around a few heavy themes. There's the global overstep of power, the climate crisis and conflict, but it doesn't stop there — it balances those with stories of resistance, rebuilding, recovery and resilience. It's the kind of thing that works best when you take your time with it, moving from one image to the next and reading the stories behind them, rather than rushing through in one go. Because it's a curated selection of award-winning work, you're seeing photojournalism that's been recognised for its impact, not just a random collection of news shots.
Having it at the Parliament is a fitting spot for this particular show. The images deal with power, conflict and the way the world is changing, and there's something about seeing them in a building where those very things are debated and decided that adds another layer to the whole experience. It's a good place to spend a rainy autumn afternoon, especially if you're already in the Old Town.
