Drop-in conversation group run by Leith Conversation Cafes for locals and newcomers to meet, share stories and pick up English.
Leith Conversation Cafes are hosting a drop-in session at the Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel on Monday 2 November, starting at 17:30. The theme for the evening is What makes a place feel like home? — a question that sits right at the heart of what they do.
If you haven't come across them before, Leith Conversation Cafes run two friendly conversation groups in a local cafe every week. They're aimed at people who've moved to the area from overseas as well as at locals, and the whole idea is to meet new people, pick up language skills, share stories and ideas, gain confidence and feel more at home in Leith and Edinburgh. The conversations are gently structured so that everyone gets a chance to speak, no matter how shy you are or how many English words you know. It's a drop-in, so you can just turn up and join in.
There's more to it than just chatting, too. Three times a month, workers from other organisations are invited in to share information, and the hosts draw on a wide knowledge of local support agencies, information services and activities. If you're new to the city and still figuring things out, it's a useful place to pick up a few pointers along with the conversation.
