Black-tie amateur boxing night for beginners, with a day session and an evening session, raising money for charity.
Ultra White Collar Boxing comes to Portobello Town Hall on Sunday 15 November, and it's not your typical boxing night. The whole thing is built for people who've never stepped foot in a ring: participants get eight weeks of free professional training before facing an evenly matched opponent over three rounds, wearing 16oz gloves and head guards. It's all fully regulated, so the focus is more on getting in shape and having a go than on anything too heavy-hitting.
There's a charitable side to it, too. Each boxer is expected to sell tickets to friends and family, and there's a suggested minimum of £50 in fundraising. The organisation runs these black-tie events in more than 100 cities across the UK, and the Edinburgh night follows the same pattern: a very strict black-tie dress code, so you'll want to dust off the tuxedo rather than turn up in jeans. There's also a VIP table available for up to ten people if you're bringing a group.
The day is split into two sessions, so you can pick the one that suits you best. The day event starts at 12:00 with doors opening at 12:15, and the evening session kicks off at 17:00 with doors at 17:15. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable, so make sure you've got your date sorted before you commit.
