Free makers market with up to 38 local artists and makers, interactive makers in the foyer and open creative workshops in the upper hall.
Support The Makers Market returns to Portobello Town Hall on Sunday 1 November, from 11am to 4pm. It's a regular event that celebrates the creativity of the local community's artists, makers and designers, and this is one of its upcoming dates — it's also running on 21 and 22 November, same hours.
The main hall plays host to up to 38 makers showing handmade pieces, from accessories and jewellery to textiles, homewares, ceramics, stationery, art and prints, all locally crafted. The foyer adds two interactive makers and coffee from resident partner Seb Urban Jungle, while the upper hall runs open creative workshops for up to 20 attendees. It's the kind of day where you can browse the stalls and then stick around for a workshop if you fancy getting stuck in yourself.
The venue is Portobello Town Hall, at 147-149 Portobello High Street, EH15 1AF. It opened in 1914 and is a historic building that's hired out for everything from wedding receptions to keep-fit classes; the main hall seats up to 600 theatre style or 200 for dinner, and the Lesser Hall holds up to 60. It's been run under community management since mid-summer 2023 and is dog-friendly on leads, with the main hall and foyer fully accessible via a ramp.
