Night-time cycling ride through the dark, following the Burdiehouse Burn to Danderhall, Craigmillar Castle and Inch Park, staged by the Edinburgh Cycling Club.
Twa Burns kicks off at Middle Meadow Walk on Thursday 29 October, starting at 19:00. It's a night-time cycling ride that follows the Burdiehouse Burn in almost total darkness towards the Royal Infirmary, then ventures up to Danderhall, explores the bio quarter campus, and climbs to Craigmillar Castle and Inch Park, before returning via the Hermitage of Braid and the Braid Burn. The organisers describe it as a 'night-time epic', and they're explicit about one thing: it's 'not for the faint hearted'.
If that sounds like a bit much, it's worth knowing who's behind it. The ride is staged by the Edinburgh Cycling Club, which is run by ELREC, a group open to anyone interested in learning to cycle, joining social rides, the bike buddy scheme, or simply sharing the joy of cycling. This one is a far cry from a casual social spin, though — it's a long, dark loop through the city's edges and burns, and the 'not for the faint hearted' warning is there for a reason. You'll be out after dark for a good stretch, so make sure your lights are sorted before you set off.

It's a Burns Night celebration, and the route itself is built around the city's burns, with the Burdiehouse Burn and the Braid Burn framing the start and the finish. Between them, you'll be heading out to Danderhall, cutting through the bio quarter campus, and climbing up to Craigmillar Castle and Inch Park. It's a fair distance to cover in the dark, and the climb to Craigmillar will be one of the tougher bits of the night. The ride starts at Middle Meadow Walk at 19:00 on Thursday 29 October.
