Late night session of traditional and folk music from across Scotland, headlined by the Doogie Brothers, at the historic Tolbooth Tavern.
The Doogie Brothers are playing The Tolbooth Tavern on Thursday 26 November, part of the venue's Late Night Live Music series. The duo is Jim and Scott, and they're two of the traditional and folk musicians the tavern brings in from across Scotland for these nights. It's a small, historic room that draws in tour groups, ceilidh fans and people who follow Scottish roots music, and this is one of the sessions they put on.
Jim and Scott first met as minstrels at Shetland's Up Helly Aa fire festival in 2015. Scott plays accordion and Jim handles guitar and vocals, and they're known for the banter and the dynamic show they build around the music. The two of them are the whole act, so the night is as much about the chat and the chemistry between them as it is about the songs.
The tavern itself was built in 1591 and was once part of the original Canongate Tolbooth, with more than 200 years of Scottish hospitality following on from that. The Late Night Live Music series brings traditional and folk musicians from across Scotland into that room, and the sessions are backed by the venue's partnership with the Loch Lomond Group, whose spirits sponsor the welcome drinks. Loch Lomond Single Malt is described as defined by orchard fruit, honey and soft smoke, and Ben Lomond Gin is layered with eleven botanicals.
