A day for young creatives to explore behind the scenes of theatre, from technical production and stagecraft to performance and theatre-making.
Theatre Insights: Taster Day runs at the Studio Theatre on Saturday 16 January, a full day for young creatives to see how a professional theatre actually works. It's part of Capital Theatres' 'Take Part' and 'Creative Pathways' programmes, which they describe as a range of activities designed to showcase the various careers in the theatre industry and support young creatives on their journey from participant to professional, with scope to develop new skills and make connections.
They bill the day as a whirlwind of creative fun that takes you behind the curtain, offering a sneak peek at everything from technical production and stagecraft to performance and theatre-making. It's less about one specific thing and more about getting a feel for the different roles that go into putting on a show, so if you've ever wondered what happens backstage or how a production comes together, this is where you'll find out. It's aimed at young people, and the focus is on the practical side of things rather than just watching from the stalls.

The day runs from 10am to 4pm, with doors open from 9.45am and collection at 4pm. It costs £20 per participant, but there are bursary places available if you can't afford it. If you're under 25, you might also want to keep in mind their '25 and under' ticket scheme, which offers £10 tickets across Edinburgh all year round. The whole thing takes place at the Studio Theatre, part of Capital Theatres here in the city.
