Three nights of six powerful one-act stories brought to life by emerging writers, directors, actors and designers.
The Gateway New Writing Festival runs at the Studio Theatre in Edinburgh on Monday 2, Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 November, three nights of six powerful stories brought to life by emerging writers, directors, actors and designers. The whole thing is curated and produced by a team of emerging creatives, a combination the venue bills as theatre at its most original and electric.
The programme leans on the one-act format, staging new writing that ranges from a play drawn from post-surgery scribbles and an experimental journey through morphine-fuelled dreams and bodily alienation, to a dark comedy about sex, death and privacy in the digital age, and another whose art lesson devolves into a hostage situation. It's the kind of night where the tone shifts completely from one piece to the next, and you're seeing work from people still making their mark.
Four of the titles are already out: STOMACH by Ben Kay, Dead People Don't Have Data by Laura Tansley, ULTRAVIOLENCE! by Will Osbon and Steam by James Stedman. The festival is recommended for audiences aged 16 and over.
