Four of the UK's bestselling poets read from their collections on stage in a comedy and spoken word show.
The Worst Poets Club comes to The Queen's Hall on Sunday 18 October, bringing together four of the UK's bestselling poets for a single night in Edinburgh. The bill features Hollie McNish, Donna Ashworth, Nikita Gill and Len Pennie, who'll each read from their latest and most cherished collections, chat between the poems, and spend the evening celebrating being rubbish at what they love.
The club's name is the whole point. Over the last decade, these four have faced a steady stream of headlines, articles and strangers in person calling them the worst, most terrible or mediocre poets of their generation. Rather than ignore it, they've leaned in, forming the club to read their work and laugh about it together. It's a rare chance to hear four bestselling writers on one stage, all sharing the same self-deprecating joke.
There's a charitable side to it too. Half of the artists' fees go to the National Literacy Trust, with the poets themselves hoping the next generation of young writers won't end up as bad as they are. The show is billed as comedy and spoken word, and it's limited to just two nights — one in London and this one in Edinburgh — so it's a one-off for the city.
