Informal lecture on the fashion styles of the 1920s and their influence on today's fashions, part of the Lauriston Castle Lectures.
The Roaring 20s: Dressing in the 1920s and 2020s is at Lauriston Castle and Gardens on Thursday 12 November, starting at 10:30. It's part of the Lauriston Castle Lectures, a series of friendly morning talks that pair a guest speaker with coffee and a sweet treat, with the option of lunch at Mimi's café on site.
The talk itself is an informal look at some of the signature styles of the 1920s and at how today's fashions continue to be shaped by that chic and daring decade. It's a good fit for the venue this year: 2026 marks the centenary of the castle being left to the Scottish nation by the Reids, its last Edwardian owners, whose personal belongings, furniture and ceramics are still on display. The house and grounds are carrying a strong 1920s focus throughout the year, so this session sits right in the middle of it.
